One hears of numerous expert opinions on why babies do not require pillows and how dangerous pillows can be for the health of your baby. Well, most of these judgments overstate the dangers and do not correctly portray the need for baby pillows. It is a fact that children less than one year of age do not usually need pillows and in some cases, the pillows may not be safe for his/her health. However, past that age, using a baby pillow is no more harmful and can actually aid your baby in sleeping better.

The skull is very plaint during the formative years, keeping the head in one side position during sleeping may result in the skull being deformed or lopsided. Sleeping on the back can lead to formation of a depression on the back of the head. Using a baby pillow can help prevent this and provides the requisite support to the head of your baby. Choosing the right kind of pillow is vital. A feather pillow can cause allergies and a soft pillow may result in suffocation; both are therefore best avoided. The new memory foam pillows are a good buys because they provide the right kind of hold to the baby’s head and are non hazardous.

There are different kinds of baby pillows available in the market. The key is to identify which sort of pillow is best for your baby. Crib pillows are safe provided they are narrow and thin and not too soft. If you visit any childcare unit in any hospital, you will find crib pillows being used. Doctors also recommend baby pillows when your baby develops a cold. The reason is that a slightly elevated baby head helps the baby breath easier when down with a cold. It is also believed that using a baby pillow helps prevent baby ear infections and acid reflux. Some opine that a good time for transition to pillows is when the baby moves from the crib to a bed. The reason that they base this premise is on the fact that on a bed the chances of smothering are greatly reduced as the pillow is liable to fall off. Some babies even start exhibit signs that they need a pillow. The signal comes in the form of the baby using a stuffed toy or a towel as a headrest on its own. Then it’s definitely time for you to buy a good baby pillow.

Toddlers may lay down on a pillow or hug a pillow to them when they are sleeping. Toddlers may often view any pillow as a time to curl up and go to sleep.

Doctors do not recommend using a pillow for a baby. To keep your child safe from the risk of suffocation,do not use a pillow before the age of two. You can safely introduce the use of a pillow to your toddler after the age of two.

Baby pillows help keep your baby safe while in bed at night and are often clung to for security by toddlers.

Nowadays mothers are beginning realize that baby pillows can be useful to provide security and comfort for their baby. Because of the skull is so soft , a baby can develop an uneven head shape if left too long in one position. A baby pillow can help to prevent that from happening. Mothers should be very careful in choosing just the right kind of baby pillow their child will be using.

Designing a baby pillow is a wonderful idea if you need a present to bring to a shower or want to make something for your own little one. Personalization makes it a sentimental keepsake that will be treasured for years to come.

You can either make a custom baby pillow by hand or design and purchase one online. If you are crafty, making your own is a relatively easy project to complete. Use your skills in sewing, knitting, embroidery, or applique to create a truly unique item.
